Rheumatic Fever

Increasing awareness of the risks of rheumatic fever

We help families and individuals increase their awareness of the risks of rheumatic fever by highlighting prevention strategies to curb the spread of the disease.

We do this by:

  • Focusing on reducing the incidence of rheumatic fever through the delivery of education and health promotion, increasing awareness of rheumatic fever through health literacy and how it can be prevented and treated.

  • Delivering key health messages in the language, and in a way that enables our people to access health services from an informed stance.

  • The Campaign is aimed at Pacific families most at risk of Rheumatic Fever, across the Wellington Region

The mechanism for engaging Pacific families is through three key methods:

  • Face to Face – home visits for registered clients

  • Community Events – e.g. Touch tournament, Tumeke Taita, Naenae Festival, Church Conference, etc

  • Door to Door – visits to identify hard to reach target populations
